Editor’s Note: Anniversary

What a year.

This duo aptly marks Black Poetry Review’s first anniversary as a free journal. Chekwube Danladi’s “U (Surrender What Subdues)” features a curtain embellished with “U” that starkly contrasts with her lines — from “– The Greatest Idea Yet –” — “though  the  african  doesn’t  need  much  for  money  the  african  has  / communal  priorities  the  african  can  even  be  made to work for free,” and refracts with, “your  constant  grabbing.” This issue’s cover artist was selected via the first Center for Afrofuturist Studies sourcing with BPR, and the artist was funded by the University of Iowa’s Department of African American Studies.

Sincerely,

Editor
